Can someone recommend a good App for the iPhone of the Metro system of Rome? Hopefully one that is GPS enabled?
TIA
I do not know of an app for the metro. Probus Rome is one for the bus. WC Rome might be useful also.
peggy,
There are lots of Rome Metro app's. Have a look at the iTunes store (I usually check the reviews before downloading apps).....

The Rome metro only has two lines, and is only of limited use for most visitors. But the Rome bus system is very comprehensive, so you'll likely be using that a lot - if you aren't just walking. While Rome is a big city, the area with the tourist attractions is not large, and walking is often the best way to get around.
So, don't get an app that just covers buses - try to find one that covers the whole transit system. Rome's transit is run by ATAC; here's their website. Start by seeing how that looks on your phone - I see it has a Route Planner on the top center when I look at it on my desktop computer. http://www.atac.roma.it/?lingua=ENG
If it doesn't work well on your phone, then look at apps. I haven't been to Rome since before apps and smartphones existed, so I have no further recommendations.
I myself am enjoying immensely Moovit - non an official app but good enough that it also sends me notifications in the event of strikes, last minute disruptions etc.
I would use CityMapper -- they take information from the public transportation system and put it together with map info to provide you various options whenever you need to get somewhere. It does require data though.
Someone above makes a good point that the Rome metro system is not very big, and many visitors may never use it at all! I took trams and buses when I was there in May, but never got on the metro.
