I guess sitting on the Spanish steps with the rest of the locals/tourists was... a way to pass the time. That's within walking distance of your hotel. I really liked that area - it's full of shops, restaurants & wine bars. Had the best Mojito ever on the terrace of a restaurant wine/bar that sits at the top of the steps. Can't remember the name, it was a few years ago, but it's on the left as you go up the steps. Great views and great spot to sit away from the crowds when the sun goes down.

A couple of museums, some steps, a few fountains, two or three places to eat. Sort of convenient to the subway. First trip to Rome, huh? Good area. Lucky you.

If only there was a book you could buy that had restaurants, shopping and attractions recommended for travelers. Someone ought to write something like that, it would be oh so helpful, unlike Ed's sarcastic remarks.

Oh Richard - that's a fantastic idea!!! Do you think anybody would read it? Who could we get to write it?

We stayed at the Grand Flora three years ago. We went to restaurants on Via Vittorio Veneto. I enjoyed eating at a restaurant across the street from the Hard Rock Cafe (can't remember the name). Their prices were very reasonable and the pizza was huge. The hotel is right outside the Borghese park. Upon our arrival at the hotel, I had the concierge make 5pm reservations for that day at the Borghese Gallery. It was a great time to go. There were very few people there at that time of day. It was an easy walk from the hotel. Use the Spagna metro stop. The entrance/exit to this metro stop is right across from the hotel. There is an escalator and a bit of a walk, underground, to the train, however, it's an easy walk compared to the Barberini metro stop. Check to see how late the metro runs. I remember it stopping at 10pm when we were there. There may have been construction going on. Of course, the hotel was wonderful. We had an included breakfast buffet on the rooftop that had great views of the city. Yes, we were spoiled with the a/c and the beautiful room. It was a great way to use our Marriott points. PM me with any questions you might have. Have a great trip.
