Rome - length of Caesar Shuffle tour

Hello fellow travelers,

How much time does it take complete Rick's "Caesar Shuffle" from the Colosseum to the Forum, then over Capitoline Hill to the Pantheon? My wife and I are early 40s and have plenty of energy; however, this is our first visit to Rome and we are planning to do this on the day we arrive from the US (flight lands at 12:35PM local time). Other important factor is that we are going in February, so want to be mindful of shorter Winter hours for things.

Thanks!

I don't know how much time you would take to enjoy the Shuffle - slam bang or stop and smell the pasta? If your plane arrives on time, allow two hours before you get to Termini in Rome and then you still have get to your hotel, check in and then get to the Colosseum to start the tour. In February, sunset is about 5 PM so with luck, that would allow you about 2 - 2 1/2 hours. Maybe you could do a bit of the walking tour, but to truly enjoy it, you'll need more time. Remember, this is a vacation, not a race! Enjoy la dolce vita.

Philip pretty much nailed it. If your plane lands on time, you're still some hours from getting through immigration, into central Rome, to your hotel, checked in and to the attractions themselves. As the Colosseum/Forum close between 4:30 - 5:00 between Jan 2 - March 15th, I don't think you'll be able to do either of these two justice with the very little time you have.

The Colosseum/Forum/Palatine (please don't skip the Palatine as it's really interesting), Capitoline museums and Pantheon took us a FULL day so if at all possible, save this for another of your days in Rome. Even skipping the museums, you need more time than the very few hours you'll have.

I am assuming that the "shuffle" is more than a cruise by the exteriors only of these sites.

Having done SEA-FCO, I know that is way too much to do in the daylight hours you will have available.

If you arrived at 8AM, had biz/1st class seats and sleep well on airplanes, you might make it work.

Suggest you see what is near your lodging and spend the afternoon exploring the neighborhood and get an early start the next day to do the 'shuffle' properly
