rome laundromats

We will be staying near the vatican. Are there any laundromats that we can use in this area?

Since I have looked for laundromats in many towns in my 20 years of travel to Europe, I can tell you that there are very few. However there are a few being established every year.

The word Laundromat will mean nothing when you ask; so ask where is the nearest place to wash clothes.

There is a laundry chain called Ondablu which has more than 20 outlets in Rome including one near the Vatican at Via Vespasiano, 50-50a. Here is a link to their website from which you can get the location of their facilities throughout Italy (Rome is in Lazio): http://www.ondablu.com/dove/vicino.asp
. If you click on an address of as laundromat, you get a screen with operating hours etc. and a link to a map of the laundromat's location (Click on, "Come raggiungere il punto vendita", on the right side of the screen).

I stayed at a condo at Via Vespesiano near the Vatican city and there's a laundromat nearby, but it is expensive. I think I paid 13 Euro for 1 wash and 1 dryer.

We stayed a couple of blocks north of Piazza Navona, and we used a landromat located right next to an internet place. The location was a little street off of Campo de Fiori. Wash was 3.5 euros, dryer similar. Only 4 washers and dryers, but there is an attendant, so things get changed out pretty quickly.

The street name was Vicollo Delle Grotte, a really little street off the south east corner of the Campo, and you walk down almost to the end of the street (heading away from Campo De Fiori), its on your left, past clothing stores, food, etc.

There may be others closer to you, but this might work for you, so good luck!

I frequented a laundromat just off Viale di Trestevere (near the Mastai stop on the 8 Tram). It ranged from 1.60 for a small wash to 3.20 for the largest. Dryer was 1.60 per 12 minute cycle, and it usually took me 2 cycles to get my clothes dry.

Look for the words Lavenduria Automatica. Just Lavenduria means they do the laundry for you. Very expensive. We were in a little town between Naples and Sorrento Called Castlelamare and got stuck paying 40 euros for 2 big loads. We were so happy to have really clean clothes but set our budget back.

I am reminded that we washed only trousers and shirts. We washed underwear in our room because the cost made it prohibitive.

Decide how much you want to pay to have someone do what YOU can do in your room.

A good rule of thumb for any question that's basically "Is there a ____ near where we'll be staying" is to ask the people who run the place where you'll be staying. They'll know better than anyone else.
