Hi,
Boyfriend and I are planning to do the late night colosseum tour which will end around 11-11:30pm
Our accommodation is 750m (half mile) - 10 min walk from the colosseum.
Is it safe to be out in Rome around midnight?
We have been that late with no problem. There will be lots of other people on the street at that time. However, do avoid dark alleys.
Yes, I walked around that late..no issues.
I've never had any problems wandering about by myself in Rome even at about midnight in the tourist areas, but I'm sure there are parts of town where that wouldn't be advisable. If you're really concerned about the safety aspect, find out where the nearest Taxi rank is and just take a Cab back to your accommodation.
If you don't feel like walking, there's a taxi stand near the Colosseum. But there's no reason not to walk.
Perfectly safe using common sense. (i.e. avoid the occasional group of drunks, usually tourists)
I would feel very safe also in dark alleys.
The not so safe areas in European cities are actually the suburbs (some, not all). You'll be fine where you are in the city center.
Nothing to worry about. We've walked Rome enough times after dark and never felt unsafe. In fact, it's a great time for a stroll!
