Arrive 7/20 at 9:00 am. Twilight City Stroll with walksofitaly 7/21 Colosseum/Forum tour walksofitaly 8:30 - 11:30 7/22 Vatican Tour-walksof italy 7:45 - 11:15 have a scavi tour reservation at 1:30 right now, have not paid as I am trying to figure out best use of time. Late afternoon train to Sorrento I am trying to figure out how/the best way to fit in Colosseum underground and the Scavi underground tour at the Vatican. Also any thoughts for the day we arrive? Thought about the Borghese tour. We would like to see the prison where Paul and Peter were held. Thanks so much! :)

With only a full day in Rome, I would skip the Borghese unless that is on your list of "things to see before I die"list and see some other highlights like the Capitoline museum, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, etc. I would visit The Mamertine Prison before/after you tour the Forum. The Borghese is great but I would put it on a 2nd tier of stuff to see list.

Hi Bev. If you Scavi tour res is for teh 22nd at 1:30, you may be a little rushed. The Walks of Italy tour, unless it has changed a lot since I took it last year, will not end until Noon. You will be tired and need some food before going on. That gives you just a bit over an hour before the Scavi. Just sayin'. If you have a back pack, you need plenty of time to go thru security to check it before presenting yourselves at 1:15 at the Ufficio Scavi. Personally, with only two full days in Rome, skip the Scavi tour, have a nice lunch, rest a bit, then head out into the evening, when it is cooler, and enjoy the Night Walk Across Rome, or go over to Trastevere for dinner and a stroll. I have not taken the Colosseum Underground but you might want to consider once again the value of some unplanned time to soak up the atmosphere. Do some shopping, duck into a church to see Caravaggios, spend an hour with a bottle of wine sitting in Campo dei Fiori at apertivo time.
