rome, italy Hotel close to attractions, beauty and shopping Moderately Priced and safe area

Looking for suggestions for hotel with in room air conditioning, elevators, helpful staff, in room bathroom. I'd like to be near attractions and shopping. I need a moderately priced room with charm. Any suggestions are helpful. Traveling solo.

This is always such a subjective question. My moderate might be your expensive, and "attractions" vary from person-to-person too. Do you have Rick Steves' Rome Guidebook? That is a good starting point as he explains the pros and cons of each neighborhood. Using that info and his hotel and B&B recommendations, you might check out Booking.com as booking engine to view a number of available rooms in one place.

Also read the reviews at booking.com. You can then filter by price, location, amenities.

diane,

If possible, have a look at the RS Italy guidebook as there are numerous good hotels listed there in various parts of Rome. I normally prefer to stay near Termini station and use either Hotel Sonya or Hotel Aberdeen. From Termini there's good access to Metro or Buses for getting about Rome, or trains if you're taking day trips.

I can't remember the name of the convent we stayed in near the Coliseum but we had a ground floor room and I would definitely stay there again-very reasonably priced and roomy. As for charm, I think a convent fits the ambience of Rome since the Catholic Church was such a big deal there for a millenium.

We have stayed in the family-run Hotel Italia on via Venezia several times over the past few years and keep coming back. It's just off the via National a short distance from the train station and Repubblica metro station, not to mention great shopping on the via National itself. There's also a great bakery across the street.

Have a great trip!

Unless you define moderately priced (for you) there is no point in going forward with recommendations. So what do you want to pay?

Not sure if it is within your price range, but we loved staying at Fortyseven Hotel. It is very near the Mouth of Truth and Circus Maximus. A short walk across the bridge is Trastevere. The Capitoline Museum, Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill are very nearby. The only place we didn't walk to from there was the Vatican. The hotel does have elevators, in room bathroom and helpful staff. The rooms are fairly spacious.

we have stayed twice at hotel bolivar which is a block and a half from all of ancient rome, the colloseo, monte palatino, etc. ignore booking services and book on the hotel website for best prices. google the name and you'll find the website. tell them what you want and they'll do it. we stayed in a room with a terrace with table chairs overlooking the rooftops of rome in november for about $120.
not sure what you mean by "moderate" but it always pays to travel in the off season for the best rates and no tourists, no crowds, no lines, etc.
buon viaggio!

Someone suggested the Beehive to me on this board so we booked it for 2 nights. Moderate and from what I see nice. A/C is an American thing ..
