Rome Italy Apartments

Not sure if this is the proper forum for this topic but here goes.

My 13 Day Family European Tour end in Florence Italy and I booked a few additional days and flying out of Rome. Instead of booking another hotel for the 5 of us (Parents, 18,16,10 year old boys) I thought it might be more prudent and spacious to book an apartment in Rome for a few days. We won't have a car we plan to walk or take public transportation to roam around the area. I have also been scanning Airbnb and there are plenty of options there. What I can't really get a feel for is the location of each apartment in terms of safety, access to transportation, noise levels...so on. Are there any suggestions as to which locations I should be focused on, some better than others? I do have several travel books including Europe by the back door but there is nothing better than direct input from the folks on the forum that have been there recently.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Bill,

Last May, my friends and I rented an apartment from VRBO 194513. We were very pleased with the accommodation and the location.

Thanks Linda...just checked and it appears that the location is booked for the days I am looking at. I am sure there are others though so I will keep looking.

The place we stayed in is too small for your needs, but we found it through Airbnb and had no issues with any of the places we used when we were in Italy (and have three booked for our upcoming France trip).

We stayed in an apartment near Piazza Navonna. We walked to the all the sites from there (Trevi, Spanish steps, shopping area, Trastevere, Vatican). We caved and took a cab to the Colosseum....it was so hot that day,)

Look in Prati, the areas near the Vatican. Great transportation options, many restaurants, quiet at night. You can connect via bus, Metro and tram to anywhere in Rome and depending on specific location, walk to the historic center in 10-20 minutes.

Most areas are safe, but not all convenient. Feel free to PM me if you need an opinion on a a specific location. BTW, I like VRBO.com and Booking.com. Have had great experiences with them both.

Thanks to all who provided input to my questions, I do appreciate it. We are so looking forward to our tour and as a divorced dad, I am really looking forward to this once in a lifetime experience with them. It's perfect timing...my oldest son Will is 18, very athletic, plays the guitar for his own relaxation and he's going into college in the fall, U-Mass Lowell to study Mechanical Engineering, my middle son Jon is nearly 16 and a sophomore in HS and a really bright kid who excels at academics, and my youngest is 10 and in 3rd grade also bright and athletic and all he really wanted was to get to the Swiss Alps, lol. I am chalking this up to a part of their education and maybe it will influence them enough to embark on their own journey abroad and not just the USA.

Anyway, thanks again...
