Hi Janice. You might consider a private guide for the day...he or she can tailor the tour to your interests and you'll probably see more in that day than if you book separate tours with the tour companies (i.e. one tour of the Colosseum & the Forum, another tour of Palatine Hill, etc.). A private guide is more money but I think you'd see quite a bit because the guides know the fast ways to get in and out of sights and how to maximize your time. If you're wanting a group tour, there are many good ones recommended on this forum (Through Eternity, Context Tours, Angel Tours, etc.). Good luck and happy travels. One day of course is not enough time to see the sights. However, You can get a wonderful overview by taking the HOHO city bus #110. From the Termini station the bus covers over 80 sightseeing destinations with an audio guide. The ticket is good for 24 hours. The route takes 2.5 hours. Sit on top in front for the best view.
