Rome in October

Our family is planning a trip to Rome in October. Does anyone know what the weather will be like? Thanks!

Delightful, perhaps THE nicest weather of the year and the summer crowds are starting to thin. Have fun!

I arrived in Rome on Oct 20th. It was hot during the days, and comfortable at night. It was about 78 degrees F and humid. It would have been pleasent if not for it being humid.

Every year can bring something different, but i was in Rome Nov 1-7 last year and the weather was delightful! Sunny ( we arrived the day after a rain storm) and about 60-65 each day. I wore a light jacket, or at least had it with me. the daylight goes fast, and it will cool down at that time, so plan ahead if you are out late!

We were there the 2nd week of Oct. last year and it was gorgeous!!! I think we only wore jackets early one morning and shed them after 1/2 hour. Had early (for Rome) dinners outside every night and didn't need a coat once. I'd take along a light jacket and a sweater but hopefully you'll only need them for part of the day. Really, we couldn't have asked for more perfect weather! Have a great trip!

We have travelled in Rome for the last three years in September/October. It can actually be really warm there. I didn't realize but there are palm trees in Rome? Who knew?
The weather can also be cool. In Cinque Terra, a storm blew in and we had our sweaters on.
Think Fall, but make sure you bring a pair or two of shorts just in case. Rain coat too.
This coming from a Canadian. ;)
Good Luck

WARNING!!! Don't totally fall for the above. We were there last October and the weather was indeed beautiful and nice UNTIL the fourth day when the temperature dropped 20 degrees. We froze! Worse, Italian law says A/C off on Sep 30 and heat can't come on until Nov 1 so if it very hot you may be miserable or, like us, you freeze!

Oh, we were in Italy for three weeks with light or no jackets and were unprepared for a high of 50 but mostly cold and windy and 30-40.

But we lived.

We were in Rome the last week of October through All Saints Day. The weather was comfortable on the warm side. It was low 70's during the day and humid (I could see how it would be miserable in July and August). The evenings were cool but still comfortable. We had some light rain one evening but not enough to keep evening strollers inside.

October would be my first choice for visiting Rome.

The comment about the cold snap in October is good. Like the guy who has his head in the oven and feet in ice water - on average he's comfortable. Averages can be deceiving. It's best to bring many light layers, including a waterproof shell, so you're ready for a wide range of temperatures and conditions.

Thanks for all your input. Will definitely bring clothes for both hot and cool temps.
