I am going to Rome at nearly the hottest possible time! 12 & 10 year old in tow. We will go to the Collosuem, Vatican etc and I'm looking for suggestions for pools and other fun activities to take their (mine also!) minds off the heat. I'd also love to know any other fun thing for kids to do!
Last year we took our 11 year old grandson to Rome. Colloseum underground tour St Peter's, and the climb to the top of the dome, and the cat sanctuary off of Victor Emmanual drive were "wows" as far as he was concernedalong with pizza and gelato in Testevere. The forum,(yawn). We didn't do the Vatican museum because we felt that the 3+ hour trek would be too much and too overwhelming.
Sadly, we didn't get to go to the park where the Villa Borgese is located-had been in the past, and it has pedal carts, and lots of space, trees, and great views. To get there, take the Metro to the Spanish steps stop, and look for the signs that point toward the Villa Borgese-it's a long tunnel that takes you to the park and a real short-cut.
Thanks- great tips of the Villa Borghese and Cat Santuary. I hadn't thought of those! Still wondering about a way to swim! Thanks
If you want to stay in a chain hotel I do know at least one Holiday Inn has a pool. Can't remember exact location except it was out a bit as we took the bus in to the center, but I am sure any number of hotels have pools.( or are you talking about beach?)
