Rome in August

What is there to do on Sunday in Rome? Should I go to Florence on Sunday instead?

If you go the RS Rome guidebook, or even the RS Italy guidebook you will find a list, towards the front, of all the things which are open and closed in Rome on each day of the week. The Italy or Florence ones will have a similar page for Florence.

Hi Amee. I attended Mass on a Sunday in Rome - I'm not Christian but have a degree in medieval art and the service was held in Santa Maria Maggiore, supposedly first built in the 4th century. Towards the end of the service, they turn on the lights and the gorgeous gold ceiling (made from gold sent to the pope from the Americas) glows.
