Rome in April: Adler,Aberdeen or Modigliani Hotel?

Hi, Anybody, your thoughts about the Modigliani,
Adler or Aberdeen Hotels for a 3 nite stay in Rome mid-April? Looks like our type of places, but we've never been to Roma before. ALL ideas appreciated. Thanks,Tom and Peggy

Don't know those places, but can I recommend a B&B to you, the Nicolas Inn? (http://www.nicolasinn.com) Within 5-10 min. of Colosseum / Forum, great rooms (bigger than normal, well equipped, comfortable), but maybe best of all from your standpoint - the proprietors. Melissa is from Chicago, her husband Francois is from Lebanon, and both speak perfect English...really nice for first-timers. They will help you with everything - airport pickup, taxis, restaurants, tickets for attractions like the Borghese, etc. They only have 4 rooms so see if they can accommodate you.

The Aberdeen is very nice and convenient to the train station, a number of good, local restaurants in the area. We were last there two years ago. Not familiar with the other two.

OK Thanks Roy, My priorities are access to Metro, short walks to evening dining and NO hefting luggage up stairwells. T H

Another vote for Hotel Aberdeen. I have been there twice in the last year. It is in a great location, close to bus line and to the termini and with a great selection of restaurants nearby. Do you use tripadvisor.com? There are good photos of the rooms there.

One further note, however, about Hotel Aberdeen-no elevator and you will have to carry luggage up stairs. Reception is one floor up, but they usually carry them to your room on check-in though. I have bad knees and this has not been a problem for me. From reception I think there are only two levels up with rooms-so you don't have to carry bags far and the stair cases are wide.

Our experience at Hotel Aberdeen was not great. We did have to schlepp luggage down some steps. We got lots of street noise from Via Nazionale. Windows opened to a direlect lot which was about a half block off VN. Beds were not comfortable. This is not a good area for easy walk to any memorable restaurants. I have, however, heard many positive comments on the Modigliani on another travel talk forum. On our visit last spring to Rome we stayed at Hotel Due Torri and were quite happy with it and the excellent location. Easy walk to Pantheon and Campo Fiori(as well as Trevi Fountain) where you will find so many good restaurants. That area has more ancient Rome character which you will not find near the Termini. I should mention that Hotel Due Torri was only about 20 Euros per night more than Aberdeen--worth every extra euro IMO.

I've stayed at the Aberdeen several times, with generally good experiences. Did have a room near the top of the stairs one time that was slightly noisy, but that's about the worst thing I can say. Their matresses are firm, and that may be why Susan found them uncomfortable. I stayed at the Adler once and, unless they've remodeled, the Aberdeen is nicer. I like the location of these hotels, which are walkable from the train station. Close-by public transportation will get you to sights and areas with better (IMO) restaurants in 5-10 minutes.

I’ve stayed at Hotel Adler and would recommend it as a decent, budget place to stay. (They have an elevator) It’s in a great location! Located in the same building, I believe one floor above Hotel Adler, is Residenza Cellini. This ranks as one of my favorite hotel stays EVER in Europe primarily because the service was excellent! If you stay in either of these hotels, try Target restaurant which is right on the corner about a minute walk from these hotels.
