Rome in 3 nights at end of April

Because my stay in Rome is short and I would like to see the main sights, do you recommend a private tour or a particular tour company? I have researched some and like Through Eternity Tours. I would like to do an evening walking tour to orient myself, and then 2 half- day tours. The rest of the time, I want to explore and enjoy cafes, etc. If you know of a great tour guide or tour company, I would appreciate your opinion. Thank you.

I can recommend a private guide, Sonia Tavoletta, who can work with you on your personal itinerary: [email protected].

Or look at Walks of Italy's offerings. They do a great job with set itineraries and small groups.

I used Through Eternity for an early tour of the Vatican Museums. Very good tour, meetup st 7:30am and finished in Saint Peter's Basilica at about 1:30. Short breaks for snacks.

Context Travel offers a huge variety of excellent tours in Rome and other cities around the world. On my recent trips to Rome, I attended a total of 6 tours through Context (Vatican Museums, Ostia Antica, Capitoline Museums, Appian Way, Roma Antica [Colosseum, Palatine Hill, Forum], & Savoring Rome Food Tour). The docents (NOT tour guides) with Context are all highly educated experts working in their respective fields (archaeologists, art historians, architects, etc.). Also, Context's group tours are limited to 6 people maximum, and they also offer private tours.

Have you determined what/where you want to tour in Rome? Don't try to do all the main sites in a short amount of time. Also, consider building your itinerary around your lodging in Rome. For my first trip to Rome, I rented an apartment in the Monti district precisely because I was touring most of the ancient Roman sites. On my second trip to Rome, I stayed near the Pantheon, which was a huge help in seeing more sites in the Centro Storico and Vatican areas.

Congrats on your upcoming trip, and I know you will enjoy Rome!

All of the above are awesome responses. Take a look at Alessio Vicari tours - you can find him on facebook.

Our neighbors loved him when they toured Rome with him on their first trip to Italy.

I took three Walks of Italy tours while in Rome and loved all of them. I highly recommend this company.
