Day one is very packed. If it's the day you arrive there is no way you'll be able to see everything on the list. If it's a full day then you might be able to squeeze in everything. Here's what I would do: Start at the colosseum. From there you pass the Arc of Constantine to get into the forums. After the forum climb the steps to the Capitolini hill and museums. From there it's a 10 minute walk to the trevi fountain. Add another 10 minutes and you'll be at the spanish steps. From there just walk to the pantheon. This will take about 15 minutes but it's a lovely walk. The piazza navona is a 5 minute walk from the pantheon. Just grab a good map and you'll be fine. It's a really easy city to walk in and you'll pass many wonderful courtyards and churches. If you have the time you should stop into them. Day 2 really depends on what day it is. If it's a monday you'll be limited on what to see. If it's any other day I would suggest visiting the Borghese gallery or the Castel Sant Angelo. Donna

thanks for clarifying the distances between places. On the map they look far apart. I'm flying in the day before, getting a good nights sleep, then i'll start day 1, followed by Day 2. It's a saturday and sunday.

Andy, if your Day 2 is Sunday, is it the last Sunday of the month? The Vatican Museums are closed on Sundays, except the last one of the month, when it is reputedly very crowded. Can you switch your days? Rick Steves' Rome Guide has some great self-guided walks, and at iTunes you can download his audio guides for several sites. Both will help you use your time well.

thanks for that. I'm going to switch the days around. I'm doing the Vatican on saturday, colosseum etc on the sunday.

Use Google Maps Directions to tell you distances between places. If you click on the pedestrian icon, it will even give you an estimate of the time to walk it. Happy travels.
