I will be arriving in Rome for the beginning of a trip to Rimini for a relative's wedding. I can't take the train the same day, and want to stay in a hotel somewhat near the trainstation, but not seedy or dangerous. Any suggestions!
There are lots of budget hotels north of the train station (Termini). I've stayed in two of them. The area is full of tourists and students. I walked around alone at night and felt safe. If you check with Rough Guide or Let's Go or www.venere.com you should be able to find what you need. The Aberdeen is a 10-15 min walk from the train station and the area may feel safer to you. There are a couple of other hotels on that same street.
check out the Hotel Palladium Palace, www.hotelpalladiumpalace.it. Near the station but a full service hotel with friendly staff.
We have also stayed at the Hotel Palladium Palace more than once. I like it.
Many people don't like the Termini area but I think it is a convenient place to stay and there are good places to eat within walking distance.
Stayed at Adler Hotel last year. It was very nice, clean, & very safe.
If you want something more upscale, located in the same building are Residenza Cellini & BelleSuite Rome.
All are located near the train station in a quiet, safe area of Rome.
Stay at the "Beehive" It's a small hotel run by an american couple from California living in Rome. It's only 3 blocks for the Termini train station in Rome. It's a wonderful little hotel and art space!!! It is also listed in rick steves book. You will love it!! Have fun.
Donna, I stayed at Hotel Italia - about a 15 minute walk from the train station. It's tucked away on a small street off of Via Nationale. The breakfast is quite good and the staff is very helpful.
look in Rick's book on Rome or on Italy. He recommends hotels in the area. I've stayed in 2 of them so far with great results.
Second the recommendation for The Beehive -- but they book up months in advance. And by months, I mean I tried to reserve a room in April for a trip in September and they were already full! So if you know your dates, contact them ASAP.
