I am seeking a recommendation for a hotel in Rome. Hoping for the best price possible, less than $200.00. We are staying four days, first time visitor. Most of our time will be out exploring not in the hotel. Just want clean and safe. From my research, being somewhere close to Trevi Fountain or Spanish Steps, seems like an ideal location.
My idea of the ideal location is the Termini area for convenience to local transportation and that area will met you < $200 objective. The Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps are very high tourist areas and much more expensive. We have used three hotels in the Termini area -- Aberdeen, Sonya, Contilla. We prefer the Sonya - closer to Termini and a great breakfast BUT the Aberdeen is equal good.
Sig - After 30 years in Roma I would suggest -

Located Directly at The Spanish Steps and easy walking to The Trevi Foiuntain, Via Veneto, and The Roman Forum. These are some of the best known "tourist" places in the world and should be seen, even if there are other people there. Hmm - seems to me that popular, historic, exciting places always have tourists for those exact reasons.
Ciao, Greg
3 star Hotel delle regioni was a great location, nice staff rooms could be alittle better but not bad, very clean
To me Trevi and Spanish Steps were a one time visit. On our recent visit we spent a couple of days seeing St Peters and the Vatican Museum so for us a hotel or B&B close to Piazza Navona was a better location.
We stayed at Hotel Aberdeen and it was great
We stayed at Nicolas Inn near the Forum, it's in Rick's book.

Check it out. Get your Roma Pass and the buses are paid for three days..
We would be staying there again, but want to be in the Trastevere area on the next trip.
