What is the best area in Rome to stay to be near the sights
All areas in the city center are close to sites. Some sites are farther from other sites no matter where you stay so you might want to decide what you plan to see first and then pick your hotel based on that. The areas that are most central are the patheon and navona areas. These are also the most expensive. You'll also have a farther walk to get to the colosseum or Borghese gallery. If you stay near the termini you'll be closer to the Borghese gallery and colosseum but the Vatican will be farther away. The termini is less expensive than staying in the pantheon area but not quite as charming. You can stay near the colosseum but the Vatican and Borghese gallery would not be as close. Or you could stay near the vatican but then the colosseum and the Borghese would not be close. Basically, those three sites make up a triangle with a lot of the most popular sites in between. It really depends on what you wish to see and how much you can spend as to where you should stay. Donna

My husband and I stayed at the River Palace Hotel, in Rome, three years ago. We were there for seven nights. We could walk to the Fountain of Trevi, the Victor Emanuel Monument, the famous garden (?), the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps, etc. Our hotel had a very nice dining room, where we ate breakfast everyday. They offered a computer area, right overlookng the street. Two computers were available for free. We had a great room and it was very convenient to walk so many places. We have recommended it to four different travelers and they enjoyed the hotel also. The River Palace Hotel receives great reviews on Trip Advisor.

We also loved the River Palace Hotel, near Piazza de Poppolo. Check it out.
