Hello. We will be in Rome for a few days in April before heading down to Sorrento. We know the Jubilee is on. We were in Rome many years ago. Our only "must sees" this time is the Borghese Gallery, and perhaps Villa d'Este gardens. We would appreciate any hotel/neighborhood recomendations, as well as thoughts on Villa d' Este. We will be using public transportation. Also, we will be back in Rome the night before our flight home- any hotel recommendations near the airport would be appreciated. Thank you!
We finally went to Villa d’Este and did enjoy all of the fountains. I wouldn’t put it high up on your list. If you are already near, then spend a little time there.

Tivoli gardens are a major attraction and if I were in Rome I’d definitely visit it again. It would take one day to see it all. There’s the fountain that plays music with very sophisticated hydraulic systems.
Here’s a link to any and all info needed to visit. Villa D’este
Unfortunately I don’t have any hotel recommendations as I haven’t been to Roma since ‘99
I suspect the forum's best recommendations for lodging in Rome 2 to 3 months from now will mostly lead you to hotels that are already sold out. I'd suggest taking a look at booking.com to see what is available there, identifying a few possibilities and then asking for comments here.
In any case, it's important when inquiring about hotel suggestions to,provide a nightly hotel budget in euros. I assume "we" means two people.
Thank you Sukiyaki, jonrossan and acraven! We booked a hotel this morning that is in the RS Italy guidebook, as well as a “best of” on TripAdvisor. We travel a lot, just haven’t been back to Italy for awhile, and so appreciate all your suggestions. We do have a currency converter app on the phones. So now we are just looking for an airport hotel for our return. Thanks again and happy travels!
Definitely Visit Villa D’Este if you are a garden enthusiast. We take a bus from Rome. Google the bus trip as we had to get to a specific bus stop. The house tour is also good. Pick a nice day…no rain.
We visited after several previous trips to Rome, took the bus as Rick outlined. I am a garden enthusiast but frankly was underwhelmed. It just isn’t that large nor inspiring IMHO.to spend much time there for a day trip considering the time to travel back and forth on a bus that was absolutely jammed. We combined Tivoli with Hadrian’s Villa…I wouldn’t go just for Tivoli alone. All by public transportation, not difficult. Our experience. My two cents.
