Rome Hotels

My wife and I will be visiting Rome for the first time in early June for our 25th wedding anniversary. Have been searching forum for hotel advice, but the suggestions are across the board. Have been looking near the Parthenon and Piazza Novana. Following our time in Rome we will be heading to Termini to visit the Amalfi Coast. Budget isn’t a huge concern, we want to be in very walkable area with access to cafes, restaurants, and public transportation.

We enjoyed our stay at Palazzo Navona situated on a side street between the Pantheon and Piazza Navona. It is an old palazzo refitted into a modern design hotel. Rooftop bar with appetizers. Excellent location. Owned by a local group which has other hotels in Rome too.

We liked Piazza Farnese Luxury Suites. It’s right on Piazza Farnese, we walked basically everywhere. Nice, small hotel, good service, good breakfast. More modern decor and style. There’s no balcony or outdoor space, but the location is perfect.

Since it’s a special occasion, if you wanted a splurge, stay at the Grande Hotel de la Minerve right around the corner from the Pantheon. The St Maria Sopra Minerva Basilica is directly in front of it. It’s in a great location, but it would be pricey.

Last year we stayed at Albergo del Senato (https://www.albergodelsenato.it/) and our room was on the 4th floor overlooking the Pantheon. This is a three-star hotel with beautifully appointed rooms and an outstanding breakfast. They also have a roof top bar that overlooks the Pantheon. It is not a budget hotel, but it is good value for the money and the location can't be beat. The service there is outstanding. The hotel staff went above and beyond when our flights were cancelled and we had to scramble for an earlier flight. While I was taking care of the airline, they rebooked by airport transport, had our bill ready, and we were able to get to the airport on time. We would stay there again.

Sandy, I know a very well-traveled individual who also loves Albergo del Senato so will second your vote based on hearsay.

Friends who stayed at the Grand Hotel de la Minerve spoke very highly of it. It's well worth considering for a special occasion.

Also stayed at Palazzo Navona. Enjoyed our stay there, location and staff. Loved the street out front. Also, the laundry service on Vicolo del Governo Vecchio is wonderful. They will do everything for you for $15-20E, you just get clean folded clothes back. I know, why am I talk about the laundry? But if you’re 10 days in and haven’t found a laundry, you’ll get it!

Also, dinner at Matricianello, grilled lamb chops and Pepper Pasta. One of our best meals.

We stayed at Albergo Del Senato and loved it. Definitely check it out, close to everything and great little hotel. Lovely rooftop and breakfast included.

We are at Hotel Nazionale www.hotelnazionale.it as I write this. We are very happy with it. Great neighborhood (Pantheon area), great breakfast included and walking distance to most everything. It’s very safe—on the same piazza as the Italian Parliament so polizia everywhere—and has a bar and other amenities. We’re very happy with it and would stay here again.

We were in Italy for our 25th anniversary recently - what a great way to celebrate! We stayed at Hotel Smeraldo (some of RS tours stay there). It is very near Campo de Fiori and a short walk to Piazza Navona. Really enjoyed the hotel and there is a fantastic cafe/bakery right across the street called Roscioli.
