Rome Hotels

Second visit to Rome next fall. Will be there for 3 days this time. Like to be near the Pantheon, Piazza Navona. Would like a hotel with the following, in order of importance: a room with a sitting area or at least 2 comfortable chairs or a couch; breakfast included; bar or roof top bar; friendly and helpful staff; quiet at night; under 450 Cdn. per night. (Last time stayed at Albergo Cesari but not too keen to return there.) Am I looking for the impossible? Haven't had too much luck with searches so far. Any ideas would be gratefully received. Thanks!

Look at The Hotel Nazionale. For the random date I checked for September (12- 15) you can book their Executive Double for about 415 Cdn per night. That's a really nice room there. Right in the area you're hoping for.

Albergo del Senato looks as though it might fit your bill. It is located right on Piazza della Rotonda. A friend of mine stayed there and has high praise, particularly for the rooftop bar. A quick check on the hotel website shows midweek, mid-September 2017 the going rater per night around $416 CDN. Not certain about the breakfast included. I stayed at Albergo Abruzzi (adjacent to Senato) , which farmed out its breakfast service to a cafe right on the piazza, so there's always that option.

I'd also look at Palazzo Navona Hotel. We stayed there right after it opened and it has a great location- very close to Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. It is in a remodeled older building, is beautiful and has a rooftop terrace. We were surprised how quiet the rooms were. Rooms go for $250 to $400, depending on the season.

Thanks everyone, appreciate the recommendations. Thinking the ones right near the Pantheon might be a little busier and noisier so looking at the other suggestions. Came across this hotel as well: Hotel Portoghesi - not sure if anyone has any thoughts on this one?

I highly suggest AirBnB. Last year I stayed through them. I saved a lot and had great experiences. I will be staying through them again in May.

This hotel seems to tic most of the items on your list. Next summer we will be staying at a small hotel right on Piazza Navona, Navona 49. I believe that all of the rooms look out over the Piazza and there is a rooftop terrace (supposedly the terrace that was in the Sophia Loren movie Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow, the original selling point for me!). You can breakfast on the roof terrace or in your room...simple breakfast but fresh. No bar, but they apparently sell drinks on the terrace in the early evening hours. We've reserved a deluxe suite which has a sitting room and separate bedroom. Take a look on Trip Advisor. It has great reviews. I'd be interested in hearing about why you don't want to stay at Albergo Cesari, as that is where we were thinking of booking before I found Navona 49.

Hi Debbie, Thanks very much. I will also look at the hotel you mentioned. The Albergo Cesari was okay - the breakfast was very good, the roof top area was lovely and it was quiet at night. Two things have made us look elsewhere: I couldn't find a room with a separate sitting area, the room we had was quite small with a little table and two chairs which were not that comfortable. I could overlook that if one of the front desk personnel had not been rude and condescending to us when we arrived. I do not know why this was so, this man seemed unhappy every time we saw him. (Even walking by on the street, he seemed surly). Other personnel at the hotel were very nice, especially the night person who I talked to very early one morning. But it's funny, this was our first time in Italy and this hotel was the first one we stayed in - that interaction has stayed with me and I decided not to stay there again.
