We will be traveling to Rome and then touring Italy for a month or so and then cruising out of Rome. My query is -does anyone know a hotel/B&B that may take us for a couple of nights hold one suitcase for a month (cruise bag) and then take us for a couple more nights before we cruise out? I’m willing to pay the standard storage fee because it would be exorbitant over a month.
Never heard of one that would keep one for that long. That said, Stasher notes "trusted storage spots, hotels and lockers." You might put your dates into the website and see what comes up for locations and prices? Lowest they advertise in Rome is €2.99 per day but not for all locations and/or bag sizes; yours sounds like it most definitely fall into the 'large' category. The bigger the bag, the higher the daily rate; I'm seeing around €5.59 per day for a big one.
You will need to both drop your bag off and pick it up during advertised business hours for the individual storage spots. I'm pretty sure that even if you stay a few nights at one of the listed accommodations on the website that offers long-term storage, you'll be paying the advertised per-day rate during the time you'll be traveling but it sounds like you're thinking the same.
If you are staying there before your Italy trip, and again, before your cruise, I can't see any reason why the hotel would not hold a bag for you. I've never paid a storage fee for leaving my bags at a hotel. Granted, I've never left bags for a month, but I imagine this is pretty routine for a good hotel. I left two suitcases for 5 nights in a hotel in Valencia last year..no charge and they took it as routine.
The only way to learn for sure would be to contact a few hotels that you are considering. I imagine that the higher the hotel class, or the more luxurious the hotel, the better chance that they would comply. An inexpensive family-run B&B---might have limited space....
Most will keep them for a few days, if you go back to the same hotel, but I don't know about a whole month.
Check with baggage services like bouncebag, stasher, radical storage etc. but it could cost $150/case for a month.
the best way to know would be to ask the hotel.
For that long a period of time, you'd be leaving your luggage in the hands of a hotel
which, I'm sure, doesn't have any bad intentions, but a hotel luggage storage room
is most likely not as secure as a left luggage facility.
I'm also thinking that if the left luggage facility somehow loses your bag or it's broken
into, you have some level of protection based on the agreement you sign when you
hand over/pay for the bag. Not so for the hotel - caveat emptor most likely applies.
