Question One: We are a family of five staying in Rome for 3 nights. What hotel would you recommend that is family-friendly and will sleep five preferably located near the Colusseum or Forum? Question Two: After Rome we are heading to Venice but also want to see Sirmione. Would you advice staying in Venice with day trip to Sirmione or vice versa? Again with 5 people where should we stay?

I would never advise anybody to do a "daytrip" to Venice. That will put you in one of the world's most beautiful cities smackdab in the middle of the day when all of the other daytrippers and cruisers are dropped there. There are sometimes maddening throngs of tourists in Venice during that middle of the day, but morning and evening are totally different (in a good way).
