Rome hotel rates; pay the listed rate or look for a deal?

What's the lowdown on Rome hotel rates in early September? It seems like rates listed on websites are high ... Would Rome hotels be cutting deals at that time?

Always inquire about an offer. Check eurobooking.com, caupona.com and email the hotal directly and see what is offered

Early September is still high season, so it will be hard to find lower rates then, but you're getting good advice to check directly with the hotels for the best deals.

I agree with everyone above - contact the hotel directly. They normally have an email address listed on the website and some even have Skype usernames and numbers. Also be sure to mention you have a Rick Steve's Italy or Rome book as some hotels will give discounts for his readers. And be sure to let them know if you are paying in cash, as you can get an additional discount that way.

It never hurts to try to talk them down. September is still considered high season. Better deals in October and later.

Rick's recommended hotels often offer discounted rates to his readers. Buy a copy of his Rome guidebook and request those rates when sending your reservation request. The rates he quotes are high season (i.e. early September), so you should be able to get those rates if they have rooms available. You can often get even lower rates when traveling off season (i.e. late November).
