Looking for a hotel in Rome near the Termini. Would like a 3 or 4 star hotel that provides a good breakfast. Cleanliness as well as up to date room features are important. Room rates below 160. Thanks.
I have stayed at Hotel Aberdeen several times and enjoyed it. Glenn
I have stayed at the Hotel Sonya and Hotel Contilla, both near Termini Station. Both are budget hotels, nice, clean, quiet, great breakfasts.
I would recommend either place.
Check out the Aristo Hotel on the Tripadvisor.com. It was clean, safe and a block away from the Termini in Rome. It's not the most beautiful part of Rome, but it's very convenient for getting around Rome and traveling in and out of Rome.
Hotel Diana has a super breakfast and a very pretty rooftop terrace.
We stayed at Hotel Aberdeen in April. Very clean, good breakfast, very friendly and helpful staff. It's a short walk to the Metro and Termini, so the location is good too. They offer special rates for Rick Steves readers. Here's their website: http://www.hotelaberdeen.it Have a great trip.
We had a nice large room at Hotel Sonya with a view of the Opera house. Nice breakfast.
have to agree with Hotel Sonya--two stays ---both excellent Paul
Selene and San Remo are good also.
The entire area near the Viminale/Opera House (South of the station) is good. I don't like the areas north of the station.
I took have stayed on the RS tour at the Hotel Aberdeen and liked it very much. It had a nice breakfast room and a very good breakfast. I am going back on the RS Rome tour this Sept and we are staying there again. Hotel is in the RS Rome book. Take a look at this hotel.
Have a great trip.
In May I stayed at Hotel Sonya with an RS tour and had a couple of nights pre-tour at the Hotel Selene. I believe the Selene's rooms were more expensive but they were a lot bigger than the Sonya rooms. The Selene rooms are on the 4th floor (5th floor American) and the elevator doesn't start until the 2nd floor. The Sonya has an elevator that begins on the ground floor. The AC worked well in both rooms as it was quite hot when I was there. There are certainly trade-offs but basically I would stay at either hotel again. I was interested in Roberto's remark about the area around the Opera house and Via Viminale being good and not liking the N. side of the Termini. Before I traveled, I had read a number of places about the area around the Termini being not so nice and was surprised to find that not to be true at all around Viminale. Good to know I didn't miss something I should have noticed as a travel novice.
Grand Hotel Palatino. Near Termini. Walk down the block and look left and there is the colloseum. Great location.

Last April we liked Hotel Sonya, though our room was small. We had expected the room size and it was no problem. A great location with a really delicious dolce breakfast and pleasant staff. I prefer a little more protein in the morning, but the pineapple cake convinced me that I would be F I N E. If I was a very wealthy woman, I would return to Rome for that cake alone or bribe for the recipe. In the very near vicinity I recommend Ristorante Strega. Exit hotel turn left, walk no more than two blocks. Strega was full of non tourist diners. The food was very good and fresh. After touring the sites we wanted good sustenance not inventive cuisine. Strega delivered. If you want to experience some novelty, don't let the dusty bottles of the alcoholic beverage shop Angelini turn you off. You will pass it on the way to Strega. It was founded before the state of California. Or something like that, so we were told by the colorful proprietors. A bit off topic as usual for me. I don't know if Sonya qualifies as a 3-4 star. I think we paid about 100 euros per night.
Deborah, I'm also a fan of either Hotel Sonya or Hotel Aberdeen, both of which are in the Termini area. Happy travels!
Hi, have you tried using the AirBnb website? You get to stay in rental apartments (or private rooms if you wish) and I have booked 90% of my accommodation this way for my 1 month stay in Italy in about 2 weeks time. Most have reviews, lots of photos and maps and helps you decide. Some owners leave snack food, fruit etc for you and some will even meet you at the train station !! Best thing about using AirBnB is their flexible check out times especially if you wish to stay around till after lunch. All negotiable with the individual owners. Have fun :)
Armonia all'Opera. Just across the street from the Opera House. About 1 and 1/2 blocks from Termini. 1 block from Metro Subway station. 1 and 1/2 blocks from Nationale, where you can catch a bus. We were able to walk to the Colloseum - but some people might consider it a hike.
The Inn has four rooms. A very affable host. Gorgeous rooms and bathrooms. Comfortable large beds. Quiet. The most interesting lift up to the fourth floor. Good breakfast is subjective. Darn good cappuccino, pastries and sliced meats. We would happily stay there again.
