Will be in Rome 3 days end of August this year. Looking for a Hotel near Pantheon with good air-conditioning & a lift. Trying to decide whether to stay at Hotel Albergo del Senato or Hotel Abruzzi. Anyone stay either place during summer months to be able to determine coolness level as well as sound proofing for noise levels at night? Albergo I know is a bit pricier but we can swing it. Guess I'm trying to determine if it's truly worth it or not. Also wondering about the shower situation in these hotels as husband is over 6'2". Many thanks to all you fellow travelers!
Did you read the reviews and look at traveler photos of each hotel? http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187791-d191099-Reviews-Albergo_del_Senato-Rome_Lazio.html http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187791-d236134-Reviews-Hotel_Abruzzi-Rome_Lazio.html
Yes Tim, have read reviews on TA, Venere & Booking.com. Albergo really gets highest marks of course along with the higher price tag. Just wondering if it's truly worth the extra euros/dollars and if any RS folks have stayed in either property. Albergo not listed in any of the guidebooks (Frommers, Lonely Planet and others) but still gets really high online rating reviews.
My husband and i stayed at Hotel Abruzzi on a trip to Rome before they did their remodel. We were not there during the summer months so i can't speak for air conditioning. We have never regretted staying there because we really enjoyed being at the window looking out on the front of the Pantheon. We also enjoyed watching the people in the Piazza della Rotunda. I was taking pictures from the window while people were taking our picture! The room was standard size, bed was comfortable, bathroom was small (which is routine). When the window was closed we didn't hear noise at all and were very pleased about that. The hotel didn't have rooftop terrace and things like that, but that view from the room was worth giving up the extras (at least to us it was). If you make reservations there, I would suggest that you make them directly through email or the phone with the hotel and specify that you want a view of the front of the Pantheon, as not all of the rooms had a view. I was very specific when I made our reservations. Also, I see on their website that they have done a remodel since we were there so I can't speak to that. Have not stayed at Albergo del Senato, but it looks nice. I think the view of the Pantheon is probably not quite as good, but it has some extras. Have a great trip, I think you'll love staying in that location, and if you do, let me know I'll give you the name of a restaurant we found on a backstreet that we liked.
I stayed at Senato in June about 5 years ago with a couple of travel savvy teens. The location was perfect for walking to Campo di Fiori for evening meal. The rooftop bar was a delight. The room was large and cool. We loved it and the personnel. My favorite in Rome.
