Rome Hotel Comparison, day tour

Hi,
We are traveling to Italy for the first time in July, staying in Rome for just a few days (3). We're looking at these 2 hotel options:
- Condominio Monti in the Monti neighborhood: https://www.condominiomonti.it/
- Hotel Scalinata di Spagna near the Spanish Steps: https://www.hotelscalinata.com/en-gb

Does anyone know these hotels or the areas? We have a short time in Rome so hoping to stay close to attractions, restaurants, etc.

Also, we're considering doing the "Rome in a Day" tour with The Roman Guy, so we can see the major sites with a knowledgable person, then have a couple days on our own to explore further. Is anyone familiar with this tour or this company?

Any feedback, recommendations are welcome. Thank you!
Shiri

I haven't taken that particular tour, but the Roman Guy is one of the companies that folks around these parts have had good experiences with. I have taken tours with Walks, Roman Guy, and CityWonders in Rome, Venice, and Florence, and I can't be 100% sure which one was which. They were all organized, informative, and with pleasant and helpful guides.

I would assume that the particular attributes of each tour would be where the differences in your expectations might cause you to not be 100% pleased, so make sure you understand every major component of a tour to see if it meets your expectations and desires.

Hi
Don't know the hotels, but know the areas, and personally I prefer the Spanish Steps area. It seems livelier with more restaurants and better connected with the Metro [Spagna] right there and several places such as, Villa Borghese, Trevi Fountain and Piazza del Popolo easilly walkable.
Enjoy!

On our first trip to Italy we stayed near the Spanish Steps. We couldn’t wait to check out of our very nice hotel. It was the crowds and noise from the Spanish Steps that ruined our first few nights in Rome. We had problems finding good places to eat as while.
Choose the hotel in Monti!

I'd also choose Monti because of its proximity to the Cavour Metro station. It's near the Colosseum, not far from Termini, and there are many restaurants.

As a neighborhood, I prefer Monti by a considerable margin. The Spanish Steps area feels a lot more commercial and crowded. The Spanish Steps area may be more convenient to your sightseeing targets, however. I'd go to Google Maps, key in each place I wanted to see and click on "Save" for each one. Then look at the locations of your two lodging options to see how they fit.
