In trying to sort out and plan our itinerary after the RS tour, I would appreciate the name of an RS recommended hotel that is approx. 130 Euros give or take that is located in Rome. I plan to travel to Pompeii, probably stay overnight in Sorrento, then head back to Rome for a relaxing night before my flight. Thanks again! Ruth
This one is not (to my knowledge) RS recommended but it is ron-in-rome recommended and I stayed there for one night after a cruise last autumn. Park Hotel Isola Sacra They will shuttle you to the airport for €6 and from Rome to the hotel for €12. It is about a 7 minute drive to FCO. In a residential neighbourhood but there are a couple of good restaurants within walking distance as well as one in the hotel. Our rate was €85 non-refundable. Otherwise it would have been €119. Breakfast is included.
Just a note that the hotel in the above post sounds just fine but it is in Fiumicino near the airport. Nothing wrong with that. I just didn't want Ruth to think it was in Rome.
Hotel Sonya is a hotel used frequently by R Steves groups. Tends to be one of our favorite hotels in Rome. About 3 blocks from Termini. The hotel can arrange a shared shuttle which is slightly more expensive than the train for two and less than a taxi. Also, for one night we use the Hotel Contilla, not in Rick's book. It is a three star and very adequate for one night. Breakfast is so so. It is one block south of Termini just out the side door. Very handy if you are taking the train to the airport.
Hi Frank, I had inquired of Hotel Sonya if they have a shuttle to the airport and they had told me no. They said that they could arrange a taxi, however. Maybe I am misunderstanding something or maybe they no longer have the shared shuttle? Thanks,
Ruth
Thanks much Larry and Norma!
Ruth
None of the Rome hotels will have a shuttle to the airport. Too far. An exception might be 5 star hotels. Hotel Sonya can arrange a SHARED shuttle. A shuttle that makes several pick ups at other hotels in the same area. They have a sign on the checkin desk advertising the service.
Thanks for the clarification, Frank.
If it is likely that I will stay in Rome before my flight, then this sounds like a great option. The thing is -- will a shared shuttle be possible in the wee hours of the morning, say 4:30am if I have an early flight? Ruth
Not even the 5 star hotels have free shuttles to the airport. It's just too far and too expensive. I would suggest staying in the city and taking a cab or private company to the airport. This way you can spend you last night looking around the city if you like. I, personally, would arrange for a driver to me up at my hotel to get me to the airport on time. As for hotels, the Hotel Sonya is a nice hotel. You can also try the hotel Smeraldo, the Capo D'Africa or the Albergo del Senato. Donna
I am returning a car and have a 10:00am flight from FCO. What hotel near FCO does anyone recommend? Thanks,
Ross
There is a Hilton right at the airport. Donna
Have you considered spending your last night in Roma and taking the Leonardo Express train to the FCO airport? Leonardo begins its direct run to the airport very early in the morning for 14 euro per person. We always use it when we spend our last night in Roma. In 2009 we found a new, spacious, and really nice b&b located on Via Viminale called Armonio All' Opera. It is across the street from the Roma Opera House. It is a 10-15 minute walk to Stazione Termini, where Leonardo departs for FCO. http://www.armoniaopera-bb.it/ Buon viaggio,
