Before joining my Rick Steves tour I will be taking a trip to Celenza Val Forte via train to Campobasso. I plan on being in Rome a week earlier for my trip to Celenza. Need information on a hotel that I can walk from the hotel to the train station and one that does't cost way to much.
What do you consider "to much" ?
The Boscolo is right at Piazza Repubblica just next to termini station. But being 5 star hotel this is probably too much.

I've stayed before at both Hotel Aberdeen and Hotel Sonja a few blocks from there and easily walking distance to the train station. They give you a Rick Steves discount.

You can always check Booking.com for cheaper hotels or Hotelworld.com for even cheaper hostels. I stayed at a hostel in Munich that was nicer then some hotels i've stayed in overseas.
Year before last we stayed at Hotel Diana and liked it. Avenida Principe Amedeo. Nice roof top restaurant. Excellent breakfasts.
Hotel Sonja it is! That's where I stayed on my last trip to Italy after the Rick Steves tour. As you said it was an easy walk to the train station.
Funny, I just returned from Tampa a few days ago!
Thanks for a quick reply.
I have stayed at Hotel Aberdeen 3 times. I believe it is very reasonable and has great accommodations. Check out the website
Gloria,
We have stayed at Hotel Aberdeen on 3 trips to Rome. Great staff. Check out the website for rates & RS discounts.
Enjoy,
Gene
Different people have different ideas of costs, so it is hard to know your price range. We also needed a hotel near the station and were very happy with the Hotel Una. It is an Italian chain of very nice boutique style hotels. Our room was large, modern, and air conditioned. Our rate included a decent breakfast buffet. The hotel is a very short walk to the station. If the price seems too high for your preferences, you will find several hotel suggestions in Rick Steves Italy and Rome books. We have stayed in many hotels recommended in Rick's books. Most are quite acceptable (as you will discover on your tour), but usually not as upscale/sleek as our recommended Una Rome. Enjoy your trip!
I have also stayed at the Hotel Aberdeen and liked it a lot. In 1977, I stayed at the Hotel Scott and liked it. It is a block from the train station. I have recently look at it on their website and it looks pretty nice. The only information I have on it since 1977 is their website so I cannot vouch for it from recent experience. You might want to look at it. You can't go wrong wrong with the Hotel Aberdeen.
Another vote for Hotel Sonya or Hotel Aberdeen. I've stayed in both (as well as a Hostel on the other side of Termini) and they're all an easy walk from the station.
