Rome Hotel Close To The Airport

Buon Giorno!

Any suggestions for a nice hotel close to the airport towards the end of September? (Fiumicino :)

Grazie!

The Hilton. Walkable to terminals but has a shuttle too. I have stayed there many times.

I Also stay at the Hilton when departing from FCO on an early flight.
Not cheap (~230€/night) but very convenient.

We stayed at the Hilton. Since I travel and always stay at Hilton properties, my Gold membership got us a free upgrade to the Executive floor.

While it can be a little pricey, they offer a free shuttle into the heart of Rome, dropping you off next to the Victor Emmanuel monument. We walked from there to the Piazza Navona, where we had a nice dinner before joining our Walks of Italy evening stroll. We had plenty of time to get back to meet our bus at 10:15. The next morning the free shuttle took us to Terminal 5.

There are loads of inexpensive hotels in the city of Fiumicino and usually offer shuttle service to/from the airport for about €7. Just go to one of the on line booking sites to see your choices.

We stayed at the Hotel Tiber in July 2014. Nice rooms, quiet, good restaurant on premises. The airport shuttle has a charge; it was €6 per person then. We took the Leonardo Express train from Rome Termini to the airport the day before our flight and caught the shuttle there to take us to the hotel and then back again the next morning for our flight. It's on booking.com - shows about $200 a night for a basic room for a random night in late September.

We've stayed at the Hilton twice. While walk-to-the-gates is VERY convenient, it is crowded (wait to check in), and expensive. On the second visit, our room backed up on the elevator shaft and had considerable machine noise. Their restaurants may close fairly early for a family that has spent the day (for example) in Tuscany, and dropped off the car late to fly out the next morning. (That happens to describe our most recent trip through FCO.)

It's clear that the Hilton has significant interest in their bus shuttle to downtown Rome, but it seems silly to stay at the Airport to see Rome. The signboard for the shuttle has a number of disclaimers about not guaranteeing a seat, and sometimes having an alternate drop off point. I'd rather spend the money on an early taxi, if the traffic-jam proof train to the plane doesn't meet your needs.
