Rome Hotel?

Hey, can anyone recomend a specific Rome hotel in the Pantheon/Navona/Spanish Steps area? There are so many that come up when booking that it is overwhelming. Most important things are: 1) Location 2) Very Clean, prefer the updated or modern look 3) A/C works well 4) Wi-Fi is free and works good 5) Nice staff that speaks English
6) Breakfast (meats/cheeses) would be nice Budget around $200/night for July 25-27. Some I am looking at are these.. but when you read reviews it seems like they all have at least something negative even though they are rated high! I'm open to any other suggestions as well. http://www.booking.com/hotel/it/albergo-abruzzi.en-gb.html http://www.booking.com/hotel/it/dimora-degli-dei.en-gb.html http://www.booking.com/hotel/it/albergo-cesari.en-gb.html http://www.booking.com/hotel/it/residence-regola.en-gb.html http://www.booking.com/hotel/it/della-torre-argentina.en.html http://www.booking.com/hotel/it/excel-navona.en-gb.html http://www.booking.com/hotel/it/four-rivers-suites.en-gb.html http://www.booking.com/hotel/it/rome-kings-relais.en-gb.html Thanks!

Hi Dave, My husband and I just returned from Italy a few days ago. While in Rome we stayed at the Daphne Inn - Trevi. Location - Near Trevi Fountain, about 2 blocks from the Barberini metro stop Very clean. Contemporary decor. Large, extremely comfortable bed. Fantastic A/C with individual controls so can make the room as cold as you want. Free Wi-Fi. The first 2 days of our stay the Wi-Fi was not good. Our third day they had switched to an entirely different system that worked without problems the rest of our stay. Staff was very helpful and spoke excellent English. Prompt to answer e-mails. Made excellent restaurant recommendations and made reservations for us. Breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30. We only ate breakfast there only once as we preferred to be out the door by 7:30 to beat the heat, and also had Colosseum and Vatican tours lined up early in the morning. Cost is €210 for the smaller (queen bed) room and €230 for the larger (king bed) room.

leias hotel sound great but note it priced in euros so actually quite abit over what u want to pay ,, your budget is about 150 euros a night.. so I am not surprised you are having some issues. You are looking for the perfect place, during high season, for basically a very moderate budget. No where will have every review perfect so really that is immaterial.. if most reviews are good and the few things mentioned negative are not that important, then don't obsess over it.

I stayed at the Hotel Savoy on Via Ludovisi last year and it was Perfect. 5 minute walk to Spanish Steps, hotel restaurant and bar on the Roof !! 10 minute walk to Borghese. I'm going to Italy again in Sept and will stay there again.

Perhaps check out VRBO.com (vacation rentals by owner). My family used this site last year to book lovely apartments in Rome near Plaza Navona and another near Vatican City and another in Florence with a terrace view of the Duomo. Much less than USD200 per night (!), and in each we had a bedroom, kitchen, living room and a/c. The Rome apartment had an interior garden terrace. The Florence apartment had 2 baths and 2 bedrooms plus washer/dryer in city center. The Vatican apartment was a 5 minute walk to Vatican city. Much better than hotels! Just be careful if you have accessibility issues. All these places had stairs and some quirks.

The hotel that we stayed in Rome (right next to the Pantheon) is called Albergo del Senato. I highly recommend it - you wouldn't be disappointed. It has a roof top lounge/bar where you can take in the sunset and where they have really awesome sangria (or whatever drinks/snacks you want). We originally reserved a Superior Double room with a balcony facing the Pantheon (what a view!!!). It's fancy but the hotel staff are very friendly (they upgraded my son and I to a higher room at no charge). Here are more details...www.albergodelsenato.it / [email protected] / phone (+39) 06 6784343 (r.a). The exact address is Piazza della Rotonda, 73 - 00106 ROMA. The hotel is very centrally located to all the great sites. It may be a bit more pricey but sometimes you really do get what you pay for. We have been to Rome twice - once we stayed at a nice budget hotel (which was recommended by Rick Steves - very nice but not so close to the historical sites) and the 2nd time we stayed at this hotel. It really is in the center of all the action and within walkin distance of all the major sites.

You don't want to mess around with an apartment rental for less than 4 days.

Sorry, Donna, I have to disagree. We stayed 2 nights near the Vatican. Then 3 nights in Florence in apartments. Then 6 nights back in Rome. All in apartments. It was kind if a pain to arrange it with the owners. But, if you have patience dealing with the back and forth emails with lots of owners, you will be rewarded. Not worth it perhaps if you are just a couple who can fit in one hotel room. But if you are a family that would otherwise have to book 2 hotel rooms, it is very much worth the effort.

Barb I don't mess with apartments for less than 4 nights because the checking in part learning how the locks work, the dishwasher, hot water heaters and stuff like that at the beginning and the reading of the electric meters at the end, cleaning people and the like just cut too much into my site seeing time. If I were with a family like you, I may change that attitude, because hotels in general are a pain with a group of 4 or more.
