Rome Hotel?

We will be in Rome for our honeymoon early August. Wondering where to stay in Rome. We want to go to the Vatican and the Colosseum. We want something with a pool and maybe spa service. Is it worth it to pay the extra for breakfast? We'll be there for 4 nights.

Hey amber
You can check out booking.com and place your filters in for pool and spa along with breakfast, and what are you want.

Hotel breakfasts always seem to be priced higher than nearby cafes, but if you need coffee or tea first thing in the morning, it will probably be worth it to you. Revews on sites like booking.com will often mention the quality of the breakfast, but usually without specifics. Since breakfast preferences vary a lot, the reviews may not do a lot for you.

Since you're looking for a pool and possibly a spa, you're probably talking high-end property, so what's a bit more money for a convenient breakfast, as long as it's decent?

Hotels which include breakfast in the tariff are common in Rome/Italy so that won't be difficult. It's the pool that is going to severely limit your choices as they're pretty rare in the the central part of the city where you're going to want to locate. Your budget comes into play as well as you're probably looking at a high-end property, and you're late to game if you need a room just a couple of weeks from now. Higher-end hotels are also more likely not to include breakfast.

Best thing to do is get onto booking.com and do a search, filtering by central Rome properties, pool, desired budget and your dates. Be VERY cautious to see exactly where available properties are located so that you don't end up FAR outside of center! Also be cautious to read the fine print for extra fees (spa packages, breakfast, etc). Be aware that there is usually a daily, per-person city tax that's noted but not included in the rates.

To find a pool in the center of an historic city is difficult. Parco Dei Principi has one and is set next to a park, a little way out of city center, near Villa Borghese. Nice hotel but too far out for me.

Finding a pool AND spa will be difficult. And most likely that hotel will not be near the city center. Personally would forgo both and find a hotel convenient to the attractions. Save the pool and spa for a beach resort later.

Your best bet for a hotel with pool and spa near the center of Rome is one of the high-end hotels on the Via Veneto. They're expensive, but perhaps friends or family have points they would gift you for a hotel associated with a chain such as Westin or Marriott.
