Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Campo De' Fiori in Rome? I am looking for a nice hotel near the Trevi Fountain area.
Am I making a good choice in this area. We will be in Rome for 7 nights and want some where nice and central for seeing the sites.

I have not stayed in that particular hotel, but Campo De Fiore is a great, central location. We stayed at the Hotel Smeraldo which is nearby. Both are within easy walking distance of the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza Novona, Pantheon, Colossem, Forum, Piazza Venezia, Capitoline Hill among others. We took a taxi to the Vatican and walked backup that area. Taxis are usually easy to find on Campo de Fiore for those sights a little further out. We took a taxi to our hotel from Termini for a little over 10 euros.

Thanks Stephen,
I looked at Hotel Smeraldo and very much liked it, however they had no rooms for our entire stay.

I agree that staying near Campo de Fiori is a great location. We spent 6 nights at Residenza san Panteleo several years ago and it was great (very close to Piazza Navona). By the way, you can take a local train to Trastevere Station and then pick up a tram than runs through Trastevere towards Campo de Fiori. It. Seems to be quicker and less expensive going this way. We've always arrived after many hour if flying and find going this way into town is convienent. You pick the train up on the track next to the Express train into Rome. You buy you tickets at the tobacco shop near the trains.

If you want a fabulous apartment near Campo de Fiori then have a look at these 2:

We stayed in the smaller one (they're both owned by the same very nice family). We couldn't have been happier with our choice. Loved having all the room of an apartment with a complete kitchen and even a washing machine for my son's many "spills". We bought sodas, milk, cereal from the local grocery store for our breakfasts and snacks. Went out every morning for fresh fruit and bakery items. LOVED LOVED LOVED it! The owners even had a nice bottle of wine chilling in the fridge for our arrival.

We also stayed at Hotel Smeraldo. It suited our needs well for a fair price. Room was not very large, but was clean and quiet and the staff was helpful. We enjoyed relaxing on their rooftop patio with a bottle of wine one evening. Very convenient location. Depending on how much you're willing to walk, you can get to all the major sites on foot. We only used a taxi from the train station and to the airport. We walked to the Colosseum, Vatican, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, etc.

Mary, I just saw your note about Smeraldo not having availability. Did you try emailing them directly? I have found several times in both Italy & Austria that websites will say a hotel is sold out, but when I have emailed them directly they have had rooms. Might be worth a shot!

" I have found several times in both Italy & Austria that websites will say a hotel is sold out, but when I have emailed them directly they have had rooms."

And I have found this in Germany and Switzerland, so that makes four countries between just two of us. It's DEFINITELY worth doing!

Ditto contacting the hotel as others have suggested. I found this to be true with the hotel in Haarlem that was the starting hotel for a RS tour. Oddly, in that instance the hotel website showed sold out, but it was still available on Booking.com so I emailed the hotel directly and got a room.

Which gives us 5 countries, lol!
