ROME... hostels at age 60...seeking 2 weeks hostel time...

Please. Every hostel I try has age restrictions of 30, 40, 50. Thanks.

Is there a reason that you have to stay at a hostel? Budget? Budget accommodations can be found outside hostels as well. How many of you are travelling together? Appartment rentals can be cheaper than hostels if there's several people sharing.

Laura,, I have never noticed any restriction other then those designated at youth only,, which in my mind was either 26 or 35. If just looking for clean decent cheap,., why not consider Convents,, my step mom stays in them and swears by them. You do not have to be relgious( shes an atheist) or Catholic.

Staying in a hostel is better suited for the young backpacker hiking across Europe. I don't think that this is the best option for you. There are accommodations to fit every budget. What is your budget?

I've booked in at the RickPick (Casa di Antonella ) in Siena - I didn't notice any age restriction, so I hope we don't get kicked out when they see we're late-50's. If a site doesn't say Youth in the title, or make age a prominent feature, I assume it is open to all. (You could always say you're 20 years and 480 months....)

laurie, which Hostels are you trying to book and in which cities? I'm in the same "age range" and made a repeat visit to my favourite Hostel in Rome a few months ago with no problems. I routinely encounter people older than myself, so I've never seen any "issues" with age. ¶ The Hostel I used has private rooms (I've never checked but it's likely there are two single beds) as well as Dorm Rooms. If you could provide some further details on what you're looking for, I'm sure the group here will be able to provide lots of great suggestions. Cheers!

Laurie: As other posters commented, there doesn't seem to be age restrictions at most hostels. I stayed at The Beehive (Rome) in May in the dorm room and it was a wonderful stay. I am 56... there was no issue at all regarding age. They do offer private rooms as well.

Laurie, I see you've started a brand new posting on the exact same topic.

Laurie, you might want to delete your duplicate Post on this subject. You might find it helpful to take out a Membership in Hostelling International. They have LOTS of properties all over the world, and I've never had problems with age limits there. As a member, you'll get preferred booking, slightly better rates and consistent facilities (they usually provide breakfast). Cheers!

I would second the suggestion of the Beehive. It did not feel like a hostel even though I was in a bunkbed. Nice, clean, and it also has a great resturant.
