Based on the timing of our arrival to Rome I would like to take a walking tour on Monday June 29, 2009, however this is Saints Peter and Paul day. I am wondering if this will greatly impact what is open? Will a walking tour be worth it on this day?
Hi Maura,
This holiday is about as big as it gets after Xmas in Rome. As you may know, Peter and paul are the patron saints of Rome, so you can imagine the fanfare. Vatican will definitely be closed. So will many shops, restaurants and markets. The outdoor sites are always a good choice on days like this, ie Colosseum, Forum, Historic Center. These are basically "open" 365 days a year.
Hi When in Rome, Grazie Mille!
I appreciate the insight!
This is exactly what I was looking for; I am glad the Colosseum, Forum, etc are open - sounds like it would be a good day for a Roma Antica tour, plus just getting acquainted with the city.
Thanks for all your help!
Maura
