Rome Hertz or Europcar

We're renting a car from Termini and returning it to FCO. Is either Hertz or Europcar better than the other?

We always use the consolidator, Autoeurop. They will search for the best prices and it's one-stop shopping. Their customer service is first-rate and extremely helpful.

Another suggestion: Purchase the zero-deductible insurance because it is worth every extra dollar for its peace of mind. Generally, usually, almost always...most credit cards will not provide rental car insurance in Italy, Ireland, Portugal, and Israel. After driving in Italy for a short time you will understand why the credit card companies have adopted this position.

I'm a Hertz Gold Card member. Join for free and see if their member rate beats AutoEurope.
You might also check another city center location to see if rates are cheaper. Often airport and train station pickups have higher pricing, taxes and tolls.

I use www.AutoEurope.com (a consolidator that works with both rental companies) every year.

Sometimes I select their Hertz deal, sometimes their Europcar deal, whichever has the best price for my dates of travel.

There is virtually no difference in terms of quality of service between the two. Just go with whichever is cheaper on the dates you go.

I echo what Roberto wrote. I’ve rented through AutoEurope and chosen Hertz or Europcar depending on price, location and model of vehicle. (When driving the Great Road of the Dolomites, I got an Alfa Giulietta from Europcar which was a bit more powerful than the comparable model offered by Hertz.)

If you opt for €0 deductible and have a claim, Hertz does not charge any administrative fees. Europcar charges one in the €70 range as well as higher fees to supply your info to the police if you venture into a ZTL. I’ve had car rentals in Rome at both Termini and Tiburtina and find the latter more convenient for driving out of the city and avoiding ZTL’s.
