I am going to be in Rome in early Sept and would like to know if there is opera or something interesting to attend during the week while I am in Rome. If so, how to I go about finding out what is playing and buying a ticket.
As anyone attended an opera or some sort of performance in Rome? Thank you.
Here's one website that might be helpful: http://www.classictic.com/en/
Michael's recommendation of classictic.com is a very good suggestion. We've seen several of their performances in three different European cities. Voice and instrumentation are live, no lip sync, no recorded music and they dress in costume. Yes, it's not La Scalia, but it's a very entertaining evening for an affordable price.
Actually, the site I posted is just a ticket broker used by many different musical groups. You might want to do a little research into the specific group before buying a ticket.
Here's the website of the Rome Opera House, with the schedule: http://www.operaroma.it/en/stagione. It looks like there are no performances between July 24 and September 29 (summer break). All over Europe, summer is the off time for "culture," which restarts in the fall. I don't know if it has a name in Italian, but in French, this restart is called the rentrée. I don't know about other performances that may be occurring at that time.
