Yes, these problems (garbage and wild boars) are still present but it's important to specify that they are limited to some suburban neighborhoods where garbage management is practically absent.
The historical center and all the touristic areas, on the other hand, are quite clean and well maintained.

Rest assured that the tourist areas are not affected by that problem. They keep the historical center clean. Rich people (and politicians) also tend to live in the Rome historical center, so local administrators make sure those residents are happy.

I would disagree slightly with the tourist areas being "clean". Every morning there are piles of garbage EVREYWHERE. Birds have ripped open some bags and you will see some rats. However, they were pretty quick about cleaning it up and the street sweepers come through and get any stuff that was left over. I am in no way trying to be a debbie downer, I understand when you have thousands and thousands of tourists, it is going to happen. It should in no way impact your visit. Side note: if you wear white shoes in Rome, they won't be white for very long ha

It's mostly Young locals that spend the night outside drinking and partying everywhere, tourists are a small % of the problem. I am sure you don't need me to explain that no city can pay for a night shift of street sweepers 7 nights a week.

Dario- not at all. Didn't think my comment implied they should either. But it was more than just young locals partying at night. These were piles of garbage from restaurants. However, they did a fabulous job of cleaning it up in a timely manner in the morning. I was just being honest with my answer. In no way should garbage around the city impact any individual's trip in any sort of negative way. New york city is wayy worse.
