For those who have taken this tour in the recent past, trying to arrange a side excursion second day of tour in Rome during our free time. Can anyone provide insights when the official tour activities end that day. Looking to go to Colosseum and Roman Forum that afternoon. Thanks in advance!
We just did this tour at the end of April. That morning we walked with a local guide to the Capitoline Museum. I believe it started at 9 and ended around 2 because a group of us then walked back to the Jewish quarter for lunch.
We did that tour in May. On the second day of the tour, we walked from the hotel with the local guide and ended up at the Capitoline Museum. After finishing up the tour of the Capitoline Museum with the guide, we had lunch on our own at the museum cafe and then walked over to the forum area. It is a bit of hike from the museum to the forum. We did not go into the coliseum because we had been there before years ago and just saw it from the outside this time. The forum and Palatine Hill took up quite a bit of our time and energy. That area was much larger than we remembered when we were there 21 years ago. It wasn’t really larger. It’s just that we are that much older with less energy to spare. LOL! We walked back to our hotel, had a gelato and called it a day. There was a lot of walking and stairs that day and it was really hot. I hope this helps.
Thanks, I guess arranging a Colosseum tour at 3 pm will work for us then.
For reference, we took this tour in 2019. The Capitoline Museum was our first activity. Following the museum we walked over to the Colosseum, took picture with the statues along the way, walked to the Vatican area, ate lunch in a restaurant near there and then met a guide at 3:00 p.m. for a tour of the Vatican. I’m including all the details just to give you an idea of how much time you’ll have, and your planned activities are relatively close to the museum.
3 pm should give you enough time to walk the length of the forum to the Colosseum but just let your guide know. If I remember correctly she asked if anyone had local tours scheduled after our group tour as we were divided in two because of museum group size restrictions and she put those that did have local tours afterward into the first group to leave our hotel.
