After contacting several of the recommended hotels in the 2010 guidebook we are giving up. I've gone on Kayak and have been looking at only four star hotels that serve a buffet breakfast, and are less than a mile from central Rome and the train station. We decided to spend less than two hundred dollars (NOT EUROS). Has anyone stayed in a four star that you loved???
142 E ($200) is not compatible with four star hotels. That is much closer to 3 star level. Why the obsession with four stars? What do you think 4 stars will give you over 3 stars? You do know that that the star rating is related to services provided and not quality? Truthfully I have never felt that a four star was worth the additional cost.
agree a four star is more than 200 USD. Try mercure colleseo recommended earlier and the raffaello
As I mentioned in my question, we are looking on Kayak. I just narrowed down the number of choices by looking only at four star hotels. That was still over seven pages. There are seventy pages listed if you look at all of the options. We have traveled in Europe all over using the Rick guidebooks and have felt that the advice was good. BUT, Rome was the exception. One of the suggested hotels is a 3 star that is charging 225 euros. That is just ridiculous!
I highly recommend looking into the Hotel Artemide in Rome. It has received nothing but rave reviews and meets the qualifications you listed if you want a simple room. You can check out their direct website by typing the name into Google, or check them out on trip advisor. You will not be disappointed!
OOn our honeymoon last year, we splurged at the 47 hotel. I would call it 5 stars and a treat we probably will never indulge in again. Huge modern rooms, hardwood floors, nice closet, soundproof windows, luxurious bathroom... and our was the standard room! However, I do believe we paid over $200 per night. www.fortysevenhotel.com
