We are traveling to Italy in October for a week at the Amalfi Coast, and are building some time in Rome into our itinerary. We will have two days in Rome before going to the coast, then one more day after and before we catch our flight home. We'd like to stay centrally in the city, for about 100Euros/night, and within walking distance of some of the sights. I have RS book, and looking for recommendations from other travelers for lodging/sites not to be missed/restaurants. This is my first time in Italy and I want it to be memorable!
Pam, this is probably the most asked question - 'Where should I stay in Rome?" - on this and other travel boards. You might search the board for some more suggestions. The centro area will be the most expensive area, so you may have to raise your budget. For 100€ a night, you might look at B&B's rather than hotels. In the centro area, these links have the best-rated hotels by venere.com and booking.com guests. They are all across the price spectrum: Pantheon Area, near Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps Area, and near the Trevi Fountain. At the bottom of each article is a link that allows you to rank the accommodations by price from low-to-high. There are also plenty of reviews for each property. As it's your first time, I'd suggest trying to stay in the centro area. There are many great restaurants in the area and for first-time visitors, just walking around the centro area is wonderful. You'll have to do some research to find a property in the centro area at that price. If you need an less-expensive alternative, look at hotels in the Vatican or Roma Termini areas. Good Luck!
Thank you Ron!
my cousin a seasoned traveller with family thoroughly recommends Trevi B & B only 50 metres from trevi fountain hope this helps
Hi We are going in July and I have booked Hotel Romance because I want to be near the Colosseum for a tour. Everywhere is reachable. better to be out of touristy crowds i think
Downtown Accomodations will meet your budget. No frills but 5-10 minutes from the Forum and secure. Mant sights are within walking distance. We even walked to the Vatican. But that is a good hike.
Thanks John, would you be willing to give any specific accommodation recommendations?
Thank you all for taking the time to respond. It seems I have some homework to do and some choices to make! Ron, your blog is great. I've signed up for the booking.com site and there is much to review there. Do any of you have some "can't miss" suggestions for sites? My traveling companion will be focused on the religious sites, I will be more interested in the art and architecture . . . . and FOOD. I know some of that overlaps, too. Thanks again, Pam
