Rome for a day August

Hi, I’m take 3 teen grandchildren 12 &13 yr old on a cruise and one port is “rome” I know we’re a train ride await but would like to make the most of the day. Either private tour from ship OR meet a private guide in Rome, any suggestions

We stayed for a week in Rome, which allowed us to see 2, 3, even 4 sights in a day, but even in a week there was so much we couldn’t see. Trying to do many more sights daily would’ve been rough, day after day. Are you and the kids wanting to see museums (Art? Archeological treasures?), or churches? Ancient Roman sights - Colosseum/Forum, etc? City locations - Fountains? Piazzas? Monuments?

Once you’re downtown, there can be a lot of walking. Maybe the ship (or a private company) will provide some transportation, if that matters. We mostly used the Rick Steves guidebook, so I don’t have a personal Rome private guide recommendation, but a private guide could tailor your day towards your specific interests, and you wouldn’t have a bus full of fellow cruise passengers with you the whole day, if that mattered.

Oh, make sure to get lunch, and that the tour spends the right amount of time for you for that.
