Rome for 7 days - Can I buy 2 Roma passes

Hi,

We'll be visiting Rome for 8 days. I was interested in purchasing the Roma pass ahead of time. Just wondered if I could purchase 2 of the 72-hour passes and start the second one right after the first. I couldn't figure out on their website if I could do this.

Also, can they both be picked up at the same time and just activate the first, then the second?

You can, but it might not be the best use of your money. The pass only gives you two free sights, then discounts on others. If you plan to use it for transportation, a 7-day bus/tram/metro pass is about €28 euro. So figure out the costs for one pass, then a few all-day transportation tickets (you may not need that many if your itinerary is well-planned), and compare costs.

Roma is pretty easy to walk with an occasional bus or metro ride.

Unless you plan to visit at least 6-7 sites covered by the passes then two passes won't be of value. Most people have a hard time making one pass pay off, let alone two. Do the math based on the sites you wish to visit to see if 2 passes will save you money. If you're worried about bypassing the lines, there are only two sites which will have long lines- the colosseum and the Vatican museums. The Vatican museums are not covered by the pass but you can buy entry tickets or a tour through the official site that allows you to bypass the ticket lines. Same for the colosseum. You can buy entry tickets or a tour on their official website and bypass the long ticket lines.

But to answer your other questions, yes, you can buy two passes at the same time and use them when you wish. They become active the first time you use them.

As above, you can do it but I don't know as it would be economical. I can say for sure that the transport piece would have been a waste for us as we've walked almost everywhere in Rome over our couple of trips; have only jumped on the metro/urban trains a few times for specific reasons so we just purchased individual BIT tickets for those.

At most I wouldn't purchase more than one and plan carefully to try and get the good of it. Spend the rest of your time seeing all the free stuff (there's a lot of that, especially if you're into church art/architecture) and attractions the pass doesn't cover, like the Vatican.

And do be aware that if you use the pass for Galleria Borghese that you're still required to reserve a time slot in advance, and can only do that over the phone (instructions in the FAQ section of the pass website).

Have you thought about buying a pass after you get there? They are available many places. Then you could decide if you want a second pass later. Also, if you are arriving in Rome from the US, you may want a day to adjust to the time change and not feel like you have to to start using the pass right away.

Thanks so much for all your answers. I'll either buy one pass or just wait until I get there.
