We prefer the Termini area for convenience to transportation. Have used hotels Sonya, Aberdeen, and Contilla. Wife prefers Sonya because she thinks their lattes are better than Aberdeen but a toss up as far as I am concerned. Contilla breakfasts is so so --- so we only use Contilla for a one night stay when passing through Rome. It is closest to Termini.

Yeah, Termini is convenient--and it's right near the fabulous Baths of Diocletian and accompanying museum--but it's not picturesque in the least. I'd be staying around Piazza Navona, near that bus route along Corso Vittorio Emanuele. That's only about 15 minutes from Termini. A lot more stuff within walking distance.

We have stayed at Hotel Fontanella Borghese many times and have always been pleased. While it is not "luxury", it is very nice and the location is great. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You can walk to Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Nuvona, even Vatican city. They also have a sister hotel closer to the Pantheon called Hotel Due Torri. We always send an email directly with our request for a booking and get an answer back in 24 hours or less. Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard as rooms overlooking the side street can be noisy. The web site is www.fontanellaborghese.com.
