Can someone help us with how we should plan our time in Rome for 2 days? Should we follow Rick's plan for Rome in 2 days?
We will be there on our honeymoon. Vatican is important to us.
Hi Dan--Make sure you do the evening strolls Rick recommends for each day. If you only have one night and have to pick between the two, choose the "night walk across Rome." Congrats on the impending nuptials! Rome is an incredibly romantic city for a honeymoon!
The night walk across Rome is amazing. Do it.
Book a tour of the Vatican with a tour company like Angel Tours (www.angeltoursrome.com) or Context Rome (www.contextrome.com) that will allow you to skip the lines. With only 2 days you need to maximize your time.
Day 1: Check out the Forum & Colloseum (if you're not going to join a tour, then I would definitely recommend the RS's audio guide on the iPod or MP3. Buy a splitter so both you and your wife can hear it at the same time.)
Day 2: Visit the Vatican & Sistine Chapel
Follow RS's evening walks, don't miss out on the Spanish Steps, Fontana di Trevi, Pantheon (closes at 7:30).
Dan; just back a week now and while in Rome used Carrani Tours for the Vatican tour on a Monday, AM (busy but our only option). Cost 51Euros each, picked up/dropped off at our hotel, 3+ hour tour, very, very good guide (Rita, w/25+ yrs in the business), jumped the lines. Try www.carrani.com; booked through our hotel -we were lucky, Rita also took us below the Basilica to see the tombs of previous Popes as the lines there were unusually short that day. Seeing the crowds, confusion, cannot imagine doing the Vatican without a guide; and we started our tour at 0830hrs having been picked up at the hotel at 0730hrs. The only place not shoulder to shoulder was towards the end of the tour in St. Peters Church & Square; a relief after 2+
hours as a sardine.
Thanks everyone for your help. We have booked our tour of the Vatican.
I would agree with Ryan. Do the Vatican on one day and Colloseum, Forum etc. on the second with the night walk to fill in the rest. We used Rick's podcasts downloaded on our Ipods and I would highly recommend them. My wife, my two sons and I all had them and we were able to go at our own pace and meet at the end. It was great.
