Rome- food suggestions and market

Hello!

I will be going to Rome in a month.
I was wondering if I could get some restaurant suggestions.
I have been to Rome and I find that people often suggest the same touristy places. And at times we find a really great place that we just discover walking around.
Any of those discoveries you can share?
For gelato as well.
Also, are there markets we should not miss? I love a market.

Ciao
Grazie

A market we enjoyed was Mercato Trianfale, just a few blocks north of Vatican City. Not exactly undiscovered.

Testaccio Market, in the Testaccio neighborhood and just north of the Piramide Metro stop. The market stalls are covered, and it closes fairly early - 2pm. Also in that neighborhood, a few blocks east of the market, great, non-touristy restaurants are Lo Scopettaro and three blocks away, Bucatino. Between the two, gelato at Giolitti, or at Panna & Co. a bit farther south, on Via Marmorata.

We discovered some of these on our own, and some on the Eating Europe Testaccio walking food tour, which was a great way to spend a morning, and then included lunch.

We stayed right by Camp d’Fiore and really enjoyed walking through the market there. It’s a touristy area so I’m sure real Romans don’t shop there but it was still interesting to see all the produce, flowers and trinkets being offered for sale.

We stumbled across Campagna Amica Market near Circus Maximus on our last visit. Very local, it is only open on weekends. I agree with the prior poster regarding the restaurants in Testaccio. We have had excellent meals just walking in, if we go near opening time.
