I have an itinerary question... Flight from sicily lands in Rome at 10:35 on 6/13/2012 we will be staying four nights in Rome. Leaving early Sunday morning for Florence or Siena on 6/17/2012. Question is how to parcel out the next 5 days between Florence, Siena, and Venice. Also trains and or buses? If we take the train from Rome can we take it right to Siena? or does it make sense to transfer to a bus? Start of with siena? or finish with siena when we have to come back to Florence to get to Venice... Or if we should do a hill town in Tuscany as well. Help!
Jared, In that situation, this is the method I'd probaby use.... > Rome to Siena - take the train but I don't think you need to leave too early. There may not be as many Bus departures "early on Sunday morning", so the train is a better option (IMHO). You might at least enjoy the breakfast at the Hotel, since you will have likely paid for it. There will likely be one train change in Chiusi (or elsewhere). When you arrive in Siena, take a Taxi or Bus from the station up to your Hotel. > Siena to Florence - on this leg, travel by SENA Bus, which runs from Piazza Gramsci in Siena to the depot in Florence, which is near Firenze SMN rail station. > Florence to Venice - travel by EuroStar Italia / Alta Velocita train. Note that you'll need reserved seats, which will be included with P-P tickets. You'll be assigned a Car No. and Seat No. You'll depart from Firenze Santa Maria Novella and arrive at Venezia Santa Lucia. With only five days, you DON'T have time to include another hill town. With such a short time frame, I'd probaby allocate one day in Siena, two days in Florence and two days in Venice. Is there any way you could add a day or two? Are you flying home from Venice? Happy travels!
Thank you so much for your reply! That method seems the most prudent. After Venice we are going to Croatia to spend about Two weeks. So we will be taking the ferry from Venice to Rovinj. There is a possibility we can add one day perhaps...But I am not sure. I hope this will be enough for a taste.
