Betty, My husband and I are going to Paris and Rome in September also. I have reserved apartments through a website called www.airbnb.com. (the link does not work, you will have to type it in). It is very easy to search for accomodations on their web site and once you choose a place and the owner accepts, you are given the exact address and the owners personal information for contact purposes. Good luck. Cathy

Hi, Betty! I am a slow walker too, with a few back problems. I have stayed in VRBO #68776 three times for a week each time. It is a spacious apartment with a little garden, two bedrooms, also with a little alcove with a "day bed", two full baths, one with a shower that is easier to get in and out of and the second bathroom/bathtub, that would be a little more difficult for you. It is a little out of the center of town, but a taxi could take you to wherever you want to go. There are about five steps in the entryway to get up. Take a look, and contact the owner. The pictures were taken a few years ago, and since the apartment is a rental, the furniture is a little more worn than in the pictures. Almost everywhere in Italy, it is a few steps to get to the "first floor." Make sure whatever hotel/apartment you rent, if it is not on the "first floor" it has an elevator, as MANY DO NOT! In Rome, I stay at the Alimandi Vaticano Hotel, or the Alimandi Tunisi. I think the 4star Alimandi Vaticano may be better for you, no stairs. It is directly across the street from the Vatican Museum. They are wonderful arranging tours.
Have a GREAT trip! Have a wonderful time. Rome and Florence are both beautiful.
