Rome Fiumicino to Termini late at night

Our flight reaches Rome around 9 pm, is it safe to take the train from the airport to Termini at this time? The hotel is near Termini. Thanks

Purnima, the Leonardo Express would be slightly less expensive than Taxi, but of course the other factor to consider is how comfortable your parents would be in walking from Termini to their Hotel? They could also use Leonardo Express and then Taxi (there are always Taxi's right outside the front door), but the cost would probably be close to 40€ anyway. Which Hotel will they be staying at? Cheers!

Quite safe. The Leonardo Express is a non-stop to Rome Termini. The airport is safe and Rome Termini is generally safe. Just avoid the people who want to help you carry your luggage and get paid for it. The last Leonardo Express departs at 23:37. The fare is 14E. Assuming this is for your parents (I've read your other messages), you also have the option of having them take a taxi straight to their hotel. Fare from the airport to Rome and Rome to the airport is set by law at 40E. By the time you spend 28E for the train and a taxi from Termini to the hotel, you are close to 40E anyway. I'm not sure about walking late at night from Termini to a nearby hotel.

Larry, Thanks so much. Your replies in all my posts have been very valuable. It is for my parents. They are flying in from London to Rome. Then they are touring Rome, Florence by train for 4 days and leaving from Venice to Paris by air. So far, I have tried to avoid blink and run(love that phrase)... Taxi does sound good, hope it is safe..

Thanks Ken, There appears to be a decent Radisson Blu near the station. RS recommends hotel Sonya. Since it is for my parents, my budget is set higher than I would spend on myself. So I was even looking at St Regis near the Termini but the reviews have not been great for the price. Have you heard of Grand Hotel Parco Dei Principi? It is a little further away. Their other option is leave London earlier in the day to get to Rome at 2 pm. Then they can be safer...an older Indian couple traveling alone may be easy target I fear. I cannot travel with them unfortunately as I have two hyperactive toddler boys!

I would recommend they take a taxi from the airport. We have done both - the train and taxi. Walking to a hotel with luggage that late is not advisable. By the time you pay for the train from airport to train station and then a taxi from train station to hotel, you have spent the same amount of money. Less stress and luggage handling if you just opt for a taxi!

While the taxi is a good option there is a night time surcharge but don't know what time that kicks in. We have stayed in the Hotel Sonya (highly recommend it) several times and feel the area around that is safe even late at night. We are in our late sixties would have no reservation about walking to the hotel with luggage at that time of night.
