Wow! So many hotels in Rome are sold out the first week of October. Is there something special going on?

Tourism is off the charts this year and October is a good time to visit Rome

I suppose there might be some conventions in October as well

hey hey molsonsb
october is a very busy time of year, not like it use to be. many traveled then thinking kids were back in school, summer is over.
not anymore, seems many big cities in europe and USA are over crowded. many getting their yas yas out with money to spend, many waiting for few months to get passports that needs renewal or new ones, waiting to see if airfares go lower
october is harvest season festivals all around italy, been to few and so much fun, cruises that start or end at rome.
i found places on booking.com or cross-pollinate.com (using dates oct 1 to oct 8). how many people, what's your budget in euros, any restrictions/mobility issue, check cancellation policies, or stay outside of rome & ride a train in. always have a Plan B with some of your expectations not working the way you hope. just be prepared for crowds, long lines, some attractions may have sold out tickets or can't handle the overload of pushy people, restaurants only taking reservations because of be slammed/not enough workers, want the most mentioned place. go down some side alley away from the crowds and you can find a "real mom & pop place"

Hi! The Ryder Cup is being played in Rome and the last day is October 1st. It is the first time the event has been held in Italy. I would anticipate some people attending plan to stay on and enjoy the city for a while after as well.
